READ THE TEXT OF PRESIDENT COCHRAN'S SPEECH AT THE CIVIL SERVICE AWARDS
The following is the text of a speech given by St. Charles Parish President Larry Cochran at the 35th annual Civil Service Awards at the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center in Luling on June 8.
I just want to say THANK YOU and acknowledge your work.
Anytime I go out into the community and I receive a compliment about a parish employee or department, I am always very proud and honored to hear it. Each and every one of us in this room has a responsibility to do the best job that we can to maintain the high quality of life here in St. Charles Parish and I believe our residents see it around them.
The former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld once said, “ Enjoy your time in public service. It may well be one of the most interesting and challenging times in your life.”
I think it is safe to say that we have been through a few interesting and challenging times and I know that sometimes we don’t get the credit and praise we deserve…but today I want you to know that me and my administration appreciate everything you do.
To those of you today being recognized for your years of service, I thank you for spending your career with St. Charles Parish and look forward to continuing our work together.
To those of you being recognized for perfect attendance, I thank you for being here even when the going gets rough and I think that says much about your character.
Please enjoy the breakfast we have provided and your day off. I hope to see each of you here next year."
