READ THE TEXT OF PRESIDENT COCHRAN'S SPEECH AT THE RSVP LUNCHEON
It has been 40 years of RSVP in St. Charles Parish and I just want to say THANK YOU.
Each and every year we hold this event and each and every year I’m still surprised at just how much you guys do for our parishes.
The goal of St. Charles Parish government is to always work toward improving the quality of life for our residents and we do this by maintaining and providing many services for our residents.
What you all do helps make these services possible. You serve as our volunteers during evacuation drills, you decorate and serve food at our luncheons, you participate in events that feed the needy and assist veterans and you present toys to less fortunate children at Christmas during the annual Toy and Gift Fund. But most importantly, all 659 of you do these things for free.
In fact, from April 2016 to March 2017 you saved our three parishes $1,723,159.79 year by volunteering 71,381 hours.
I’m sure we are all familiar with this quote by Margaret Thatcher, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has”
This holds true for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of the River Parishes. Trust me, I see the work you do, our residents see the work you do and we appreciate it. To have people work as hard as you do and be volunteers says a lot about the community we live in.
Congratulations to those of you today being recognized and thank you for allowing me to be a part of this ceremony."
