Frequently Asked Questions about our Program

 

Q: What is the "One Stop" Center?

A: The One-Stop Center is designed to meet the needs of job seekers, dislocated workers, youth, incumbent workers, new entrants to the workforce, veterans, persons with disabilities, and employers.

 

Q: Does the One-Stop find job for people?

A: We provide you with the means to conduct your job search, such as Internet usage, telephones, and "fax" machines. Staff members are available to assist you.

 

Q: Does the One-Stop have a list of local jobs?

A: The job listings on LaVOS are statewide listings, however, you have the ability to access listings by area.

Occasionally an employer requests our assistance in finding qualified employees to fill vacancies within their organization or company. As more employers are made aware of the services we can provide, there will be a great possibility of more job matching in the local area.

 

Q: Does the One-Stop provide a resume' service?

A: We have an excellent resume' software program that is very user-friendly. There are also books and pamphlets with tips and suggestions for creating the right resume' for you. Knowledgeable staff members are available if you need assistance.

 

Q: Can I check out books and software?

A: The resource room at the Center contains a wealth of publications, videos, pamphlets, etc. that are available to the public resource. The resource specialist can tell you which items you can have and which publications and videos must remain in the resource room.

 

Q: Does the One-Stop offer adult GED classes?

A: GED classes are offered by one of our partner programs, Adult Education. Classes are available at the Adult Learning Centers in Boutte and Norco in St. Charles Parish. Look for additional information regarding GED under "Partners".

 

Q: What is the role of the Partners?

A: The One-Stop concept is a partnership of many entities responsible for administering separate workforce investment, educational, and other human resource programs. All partners are required to make their services available at the One-Stop Center.

 

Q: Can I file for Unemployment there?

A: Job Service personnel is available at the St. Charles Parish One-Stop Center on Mondays and Wednesdays to process Unemployment Insurance claims.

 

Q: Can I take computer classes there?

A. The center offers tutorial software on numerous computer applications. These are easy to use and you can learn at your own pace.

 

Q: Does the One-Stop offer job training?

A: Training services are available to employed and unemployed adults and dislocated workers who meet eligibility for training services and are unable to obtain assistance from other sources to pay the cost of training.

 

Q: Does the One-Stop pay for child-care and transportation?

A: Support Services for adults and dislocated workers may include child -care and transportation to enable an individual to participate in WIA Title I activities.

Information regarding support services is available at the One-Stop as well as information on other programs that may offer such services.
